They Count, Will You?

Annual Homeless Count

The City of Temple City is seeking volunteers to partake in its 2018 homeless street count, which will occur Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 7 p.m. to midnight. The annual count, organized by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, gathers information to determine and request how much federal funding is needed for homeless services programs, both countywide and in the San Gabriel Valley.

Work to be done by volunteers is considered a passive count. Volunteers will not approach or engage the homeless for safety reasons. A mandatory one-hour training seminar will be held the night of the count from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at City Hall, 9701 Las Tunas Drive. Volunteers should be capable of walking two to three miles and are asked to arrive with a fully charged cell phone.
