LINKAGES PROGRAM
The City of Temple City in conjunction with the YWCA San Gabriel Valley will be providing case management services to eligible seniors aged 60 and older. For many seniors, care management services can mead the difference between independent living or convalescent care. Case management services are available by appointment. 

Onsite services available the first and third Monday of the month from 9 am - 10:30 am at the Live Oak Park Community Center.  Care Managers speak English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin & Vietnamese.  Services eligible seniors include: advocacy, housekeeping, care giving, medical equipment utility payment assistance, vision/hearing services and more! Visit the Live Oak Park Community Center for an enjoyable afternoon of senior movies. Every first and third Thursday of the month join us as we take a journey through classic cinema and new blockbuster releases.  Bring your favorite snack and join us.  Movies begin at 12:30 p.m. Movies subject to change based on availability.

must be checked in by 11:45 a.m.
Lunch is Served! Hot, well-balanced meals will be served Monday through Friday at 12 noon at the Live Oak Park Community Center to seniors 60 years of age and older, as well as their spouses. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance by calling (626) 579-0461 or (626) 285-2171 ext. 2358 before 12:45 pm. NO RESERVATIONS ARE TAKEN AFTER 6 PM OR ON THE WEEKENDS.
Monthly menus are available at the Community Center or the City's website.

The suggested donation is $2 per meal. The senior lunch program is administered by the YWCA San Gabriel Valley's Intervale Senior Services Program and funded in part by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging through the Older Americans Act of 1965.

INCOME TAX PREPARATION Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 1
IRS-certified AARP volunteer tax aides will assist seniors in preparing their 2011 income tax returns.
To be eligible, you must be at least 50 years of age with a combined taxable/non-taxable income not
exceeding $53,000.  In addition to FREE tax return preparation assistance, electronic filing (E-FILING) will be available.
Income tax preparation will be offered on Wednesdays beginning February 1 and continuing through April 1, 2012.  Appointments are available at 9 a.m., 9:50 a.m., 10:40 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  To schedule an appointment, please call the Live Oak Park Community Center (626) 579-0461.

Please bring the following to your appointment:
Current year's tax forms & preparation booklet
Copy of last year's income tax returns
SSA-1099 forms if you were paid social security payments
Social Security numbers for all dependents

*if your return is beyond the scope of the volunteer expertise, the volunteer tax aide has the right to refuse service.

Additional Services

Meals on Wheels  
The YWCA San Gabriel Valley Senior Services offers home-delivered meals for seniors age 60 or older living in Temple City and surrounding communities. This wonderful program is a lifeline for many homebound seniors, providing comfort and convenience for them and their families.

For many seniors, home-delivered meals can be the difference between living independently and being confined to a convalescent care facility. To begin receiving home-delivered meals, or to obtain additional information on this program, please call 214-9465.

There is no charge for this service; donations are gratefully accepted, but not required.


Driver Safety Program Live Oak Park Community Center
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
NEXT COURSE:  March 5 - 6, 2012  
The AARP Driver Safety Program, a 2-day hands-on course, will be offered at the Live Oak Park Community Center. The course is designed to reinforce and improve your current driving. Graduates may qualify for a multi-year discount on their auto insurance rates! The fee is only $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members, payable by check on the first day of class. Space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended. Call 579-0461 for more information and to pre-register.
 
LIONS SIGHT PROGRAM
The Lions Sign Program provides FREE vision care for low-income seniors.  To qualify you must be 62 years or over, or disabled with a yearly income below $25,900 and live within the city limits of Temple City. A Lions Recycle for Sight Program drop off box is located at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Prescription,  non-prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses are needed.

Adult Excursions

How Do I Register? Pre-Registration is required and must be made in person at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Reservations are accepted on a first-come basis with a maximum limit of passengers.
Where Do Trips Depart From? Guests will board at the flagpole north side of Live Oak Park, 10144 Bogue Street and from Woodward and Chapel, Alhambra
Refunds & Cancellations: Refunds will be given if a replacement is found.  Trips may be cancelled or changed at the discretion of the Parks & Recreation Department.

  • Bridge Card Club meets Mondays at 12 noon Serious card players and less than serious players are welcome.  Duplicate Bridge is played on Fridays at 12 noon - happy to match you with a partner!

    Military Pinochle meets on Tuesdays at noon
Transportation Programs offered include Dial-A-Ride and the sale of MTA bus passes and tokens at a reduced rate for residents. Dial-A-Ride provides low cost transportation for seniors (60 years & over) and persons with a disability. A complete application is required. Bus Passes are sold from the 25th of the month to the 10th of the following month.  Access Services information
